Reading Workshop This year we will be developing our knowledge and reading skills by helping you, as readers, develop creatively, critically, and clearly. The Reading Strategies are:
Guided Reading - The Daily 3 MINI LESSON (10 minutes)
Each Guided Reading Workshop will begin with a mini lesson that lasts approximately minutes. This mini lesson will highlight the Reading Strategy that we are currently working on.
Examples of Mini -Lessons are: *Choosing Just Right Books *Genres *Abandoning Books *Learning the reading expectations *Routines for Independent Reading *Determining Important Ideas *Making Connections *Inferring *Visualizing *Asking Questions *Synthesizing *Repairing Comprehension *Locating evidence to support thinking *Extending Understanding *Thinking beyond the text *Point Of View
READING - Daily 3 Guided Reading Groups (30 minutes)
Guided Reading: A small group will meet with Ms Gagliardi to read a book targeting a strategy related to the mini-lesson. Three Groups will independently be working on either: Reading To Self- A group of students will select a book from their Book Boxes and use their sticky notes to jot down thoughts related to the mini lesson strategy. Responding to Reading - A group of students will respond to a text given by Ms Gagliardi and hand it in. Word Work – A group of students will work on a Grammar or Spelling mini-lesson. SHARING (5 minutes) We use the strategy from the mini lesson and discuss how it was applied to the whole class
